Why Tridelta?
My name is Kathleen Briscoe, and I pledged a sorority in the fall of 2009. I am a junior studying Hospitality and Tourism Management. I began my freshman year of college as an art major at the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI. Though art was a passion, it wasn’t a career for me, and I made what I consider the start of the best decision of my life: to transfer to Purdue. My mother is a Purdue alumna and also a sorority woman, and she advised me to participate in fall recruitment. I wasn’t sure what to expect or where to start. After listening to other women’s accounts of success in friendships and networking, and from the urging of my mom and sister (also Greek on Butler’s campus), I decided to take my chances and sign up for recruitment. I come from a large family in which most of the women were sorority women in college. All during recruitment I met so many successful and happy women in every chapter, and I knew that pledging a sorority would make the transition to a new university much easier. I accepted my bid from Delta Delta Delta, a different chapter than all the rest of those of my enthusiastic family. I met so many great people who were so ready to include me in their lives. My sorority aided me in reaching goals like keeping my GPA high through constant support and balance between work and play, and also leading me to other student organizations on campus in which I am involved. Joining a sorority makes that great connection and networking tool that can be utilized through life, no matter the chapter, no matter the college campus. I’ve made friends and memories, found support and a home away from home. All of this I owe to sorority rush, and I’m so glad I did it!
